Espostoa is directly related to the cactaceae family, and is considered a species of cleistocactus. This plant is columnar and has stems branching from the base. Shoots can grow up to 3 meters in height, and there are a huge number of hairs on their surface. In nature, this cactus can be found in the midlands of southern Ecuador and the northern half of Peru. Under natural conditions, espostoa produces spectacular bell-shaped flowers, which can reach 5 centimeters in diameter. Flowering is observed only in adult specimens. After flowering, oval-shaped fruits are formed, on the surface of which there is a layer of hairs and scales.

At home, they are most often grown espostow woolly (Espostoa Lanata). The most suitable conditions for her maintenance are in greenhouses. There the plant unfolds in full glory. But it is quite possible to grow it indoors. Florists love this cactus for its unusual whitish woolly pubescence. At home, it blooms extremely rarely and can reach a height of 35 to 70 centimeters. Home espostoa has a columnar, strong and rather thick stem, painted in a greenish-gray color, on the surface of which there is a dense covering, consisting of sharp spines and hairs.

Espoo home care

Loves light. The plant needs bright lighting both in summer and especially in winter.

Temperature regime

In the spring and summer, it is recommended to keep the cactus at moderate temperatures. With the onset of the cold season, it must be rearranged to a fairly cool place (from 15 to 18 degrees). You should know that Espostoa feels quite comfortable at temperatures not lower than 8 degrees.

How to water

During active growth, water the plant very carefully, while watering should be rather scarce. Do not forget that this cactus comes out of dormancy for a very long time (throughout spring and early summer). In the autumn-winter period, you only need to water the cactus with a small amount of water occasionally.

Does not need additional humidification from the sprayer. On hot summer days, frequent ventilation is recommended.

Transplant features

While the cacti are young, they should be transplanted once a year. For transplanting, you should choose a container in size slightly larger than the previous one. A suitable dredge should have good water and air permeability and deep drainage. To prepare the mixture, it is necessary to combine sod land, leaf humus, as well as brick and marble chips, taken in a ratio of 2: 1: 2.

Reproduction methods

In spring and summer, it can be propagated by cuttings. Cuttings must be dried for several days before planting in peat soil. You can grow cacti from seeds if the room temperature is between 17 and 25 degrees.

Sowing seeds can be carried out in the spring-summer period in a dry mixture consisting of leafy soil and coarse sand. The container is covered with glass and put away in a well-lit place. When the seedlings appear, the glass will need to be removed.

In the event that some of the seeds germinated a little earlier than the rest, they will need to be transplanted into another pot. In this case, the transplanted seedlings should not be disturbed until they are completely rooted. Then the seedlings are planted in small pots.

Possible difficulties

  1. There is rot at the bottom of the stem (near the surface of the substrate) - due to overflow. It is necessary to revise the watering regime.
  2. Lime deposits appear on the hairs - due to plant moisture from the sprayer.

Indoor plant Dieffenbachia: home care, watering, transplanting, pruning and temperature of deciduous culture

Dieffenbachia (Dieffenbachia) is a deciduous crop from the Aroid family, with a straight stem and large elongated foliage. The Austrian botanist Heinrich Shotu is considered the discoverer of Dieffenbachia. But the plant is named after the Viennese gardener J. Diffenbach.

Dieffenbachia is characterized by very rapid growth. In 2 weeks, she is able to throw out 1 sheet. After a short time, the plant can stretch up strongly, while the lower part of the stem will be bare. There are varieties that can grow up to 3 m in height. When kept at home, they try to restrain its growth, limiting the growth of roots, pinching the shoots. In general, dieffenbachia is considered an unpretentious flower. But for successful development, the right approach is necessary to it.

  25. Dieffenbachia in the house: benefits and harms

People call this plant a money tree for small thick rounded leaves, and among botanists - Crassula. According to the ancient Chinese teachings of Feng Shui, it is the fat woman who attracts luck, wealth and prosperity to the house.

Temperature features, lighting, humidity

The fat woman is photophilous, but it is better not to take it out into direct sunlight. The best option is east, west, south-east or south-west windows. You can shade it with mesh material or a very thin fabric. The fat woman will respond well to moving it into open ground. They put it in a semi-shaded place, where direct sunlight hits only in the early morning or evening.

They bring the money tree into the house with the onset of cool August nights (usually this is the middle of the month).

  • Crassula hibernates in a cool, light room with an air temperature of 10-15 degrees. The minimum duration of cold wintering is 1.5 months. If it fails to provide such conditions, then one can expect slow growth, and sometimes leaf fall, in the future. To avoid the loss of green mass during a warm winter, the bastard should, at a minimum, be set aside from the heating batteries, and also humidify the air.
  • In summer, the humidity of the air is not critical for the fat woman, because it is a succulent that accumulates water in its fleshy leaves and trunks. During the summer period, you can expect an intensive growth of shoots, and often even flowering!

And yet, if possible, it is better to place containers with water and other indoor plants around the pot, the leaves of which evaporate moisture. On the hottest days of July, it is recommended to additionally spray and rinse the fat woman under a warm shower. At the same time, they try not to flood the earthen lump.

Soil requirements

Domestic producers produce special soil for succulents, suitable for the money tree. Unless you can add a little ordinary garden soil and coarse sand to it. If you wish, you can make your own potting mix.

To do this, take:

  • leafy soil - 1 part,
  • turf - 4 parts,
  • humus - 1 part,
  • coarse sand - 1 part.

It is recommended to choose an earthen pot, although succulents grow well in plastic ones. The main thing is that there is a drainage hole at the bottom, because stagnant moisture is detrimental to the money tree. Before backfilling the soil to 1/5 of the height, a layer of pebbles, expanded clay or at least small stones is laid. The plant is placed in a pot with straightened roots and carefully covered with soil along the root collar.

Watering and feeding the money tree

The fat woman has special conditions for watering. Its root system easily rots from excessive soil moisture, so watering is carried out only as the earthy coma dries out. Moreover, it is better to underfill than to pour: wait until the earthen coma dries to a depth of 2-4 cm.

In winter, watering becomes very rare. During cold wintering, it is enough to moisten the substrate 1-2 times a month, depending on the temperature and the rate of moisture evaporation.

Too often it is contraindicated to feed the fat woman. It is enough to apply special fertilizers for succulents once every 1-2 months in the warm season. You can periodically change the topsoil, replacing it with a new, fertile one.

Content rules

The plant is unpretentious in lighting, watering and feeding. It should be remembered that the clivia does not like to be disturbed. In the photo, you can see that it grows in rather large pots. With proper home care, already at the stage of reproduction and transplantation, she needs to pick up a roomy container so as not to transplant the plant every year.

The flower immediately needs to determine a suitable place where it will have enough light, but there will be no exposure to direct sunlight, which the plant does not tolerate. It is usually grown on east or west facing windows. The southern windows are not suitable for him.

The plant will be able to grow on the northern window, as it quickly adapts to different conditions. But with this arrangement, its growth will slow down, and there will be no flowers at all.

And croton is also dangerous if you don't know it. How to explain to a child at the age of three that beauty can kill. It can be gifted to enemies, and not grown in the house. It's about the same as breeding tigers. Also, the animal is very beautiful, graceful, but if it is hungry ... It's good that the croton does not eat small animals)

Croton is one of the most popular ornamental indoor plants among gardeners. Indeed, he has a motley, beautiful color of the leaves and forms an amazing combination of color shades.

Looks nice, but the poisonous juice is scary. After all, there are small children at home.

What a fastidious, yes I had such, for a long time my character could not bear, the poor fellow wilted.

I wanted to get myself something tropical, I read this article ... Well, it’s something difficult, I’d better buy another cactus :))

An unusual flower (I have 2 of these), beautiful but very harmful .. they just hoot and throw off the leaves ...

True, this plant evokes delight and pleasant emotions with its multi-colored leaves. I have an eternal problem, I forget to water the flowers on time. It will not take root with me, probably (

So much trouble. There are so many nuances in care. The flower is generally pretty. but it doesn't even bloom. And so whimsical already.
